Floating Support Services (FSS)

We work with young people aged 18+ who are having difficulties managing their home by offering a floating support service via our affiliated local authority partners and social enterprises. This service is open to young people who have a history of; substance misuse, physical or learning disabilities, mental health issues, domestic abuse and/or unstable housing.

We package this up into short term interventions to help young people return to independent living, usually spanning 3-12 months depending on the need. Our floating support team assist with the following:

  • Assess and improve circumstances in current accommodation or to find alternative accommodation

  • Access physical and mental health services and encourage healthy lifestyles

  • Managing your financial problems including any debts and arrears and evictions;

  • Help develop independent living skills – budgeting, setting up payment plans

  • Helping young people move on from temporary accommodation into more settled accommodation

  • Help reduce offending behaviour

  • Provide employability skills classes which create education, training and employment opportunities

  • Provide useful access services to help maintain your independence

  • Help minimise substance abuse and the harm it causes

  • Reduce the need for further future crisis and emergency interventions.

We offer this both as a stand-alone service without providing or arranging accommodation linked to the support; and parallel with our supported accommodation service once our young people leave to ensure their journey to independent living continues.

Local authorities and social enterprises please contact floatingsupport@soehomes.com for more information and commissioning of this service.
